In Karachi, the monsoon season starts from the end of July till August, but every year the monsoon season can change. When heavy rain began lashing Karachi on September 11, 2025, this involved an intense, focused downpour over a short period.
In some places, electricity is turned off because of too much standing water and the danger of electricity flowing into the water. This year, streets were flooded, roads were damaged, and cars were stuck. Our area was also badly affected, including our school. A new thing I had never seen before was that the stream overflowed, and the water coming through University Road and Scheme 33 completely drowned our area.
Overflowing roads caused power outages and stranded residents. That’s why traffic did not move properly. The government needs to take strict action, like making roads, cleaning gutters before the rainy season, and improving drainage.
If you ever find yourself in such a situation, you should not drive or walk through flooded streets, as even 6 inches of moving water can knock you off your feet and is extremely dangerous. Although I found children really enjoy this time; they fill plastic bags with standing water on the roads to play.
People shared live events and information for every road and area through social media. Neighbors wiped water from the front of their houses, shopkeeper closed their stores. where aome people were helping others, many stood as spectators watching the whole scene.
Government announcements on social media, along with rescue teams and people helping each other, as well as dedicated teams such as Rescue 1122, are responsible for organizing and implementing responses to these situations. Government needs to strict action, like making roads, cleaning gutter before this spell of raining and improved drainage for next year.
