Gems of Islam

When Truth Echoed from Makkah to Madina

Long, long ago, our Prophet (S.A.W) used to preach to the few Muslims secretly, but then he received an order from Allah (SWT) to start preaching to his people openly, teaching them Islam, and warning them about the punishment of Allah if they did not obey. So, the very next day, our Prophet (S.A.W) climbed up on the mountain of Safa and started calling out to the people by saying, “Ya Sabaaha.” As soon as people heard this call, they quickly gathered around the mountain because, at that time, this was a warning that the enemy was approaching.

After this event, when the Prophet (S.A.W) mentioned the name of Allah (SWT) and told the people that they were worshipping the wrong gods, they got very mad. Since then, they started treating the Muslims very badly, and they would even torture the slaves and weaker people who accepted Islam. At one point, they even boycotted Banu Hāshim, the tribe of Muhammad (S.A.W). The people of the tribe were forced to live awa from Makkah. No other tribe would trade with them or talk to them. Soon, the time came when they didn’t have any food, water, or shelter.

After the boycott ended, which we also know as Aam-ul-Huzun, the Prophet (S.A.W) ordered all of the weaker Muslims to migrate to a place called Habsha, as their king was known to be wise. Years later, during one Hajj season, the Prophet (S.A.W) was going around the tents in Makkah as it was the Hajj season, and he wanted to get Nusrah, which means help from other people, since the people of Makkah treated him very badly. As he (S.A.W) was passing by, he knocked and entered. In the tent were three people from Medina, and two of the people were from the same tribe, while the other one was from a different tribe. Even though these two tribes would often fight, these people were close friends. The names of these two tribes were Aus and Khizraj. When our Prophet (S.A.W) told them about what was happening to the Muslims and how harshly they were being treated, they accepted Islam and invited the Prophet (S.A.W) to Medina.

After some time, the Prophet (S.A.W) first told the Muslims to migrate to Medina while he and his companion Abu Bakr (R.Z) stayed in Makkah. Meanwhile, the people of Makkah held a meeting where Shaitan himself was there in his human form. In the meeting, it was decided that they would send some very brave and skillful swordsmen to kill the Prophet(S.A.W). However, that night, the Prophet (S.A.W), who was already aware of this scheme, made his companion Ali bin Abi Talib (R.Z)sleep in his bed. It is said that Ali bin Abi Talib (R.Z) had one of the best sleeps of his life.

After leaving safely, the Prophet (S.A.W) himself, along with his faithful friend Abu Bakr (R.Z.), went out of the house, and the Prophet (S.A.W) took a bunch of sand and threw it at the swordsmen and recited a powerful dua. Therefore, the men were completely blinded, and the Prophet (S.A.W) and his companion left completely unharmed. That day, when the swordsmen charged into the house, they were shocked to find Ali Ibn Abi Talib (R.Z.) peacefully sleeping there. They kept asking him where the Prophet (S.A.W) was, but he just said he didn’t know, which was true.

Meanwhile, the Prophet (S.A.W) and Abu Bakr (R.Z.) quietly went to a cave called the Cave of Thaur, where the companion of the Prophet (S.A.W) entered first to make sure they were safe, and he covered all the holes in the cave walls by ripping pieces of his cloth. In the process, he got bitten by a snake. He didn’t say anything, but the Prophet (S.A.W) soon realized and put his saliva on the wound, and it was completely better. Later, he and his companion stayed there while Abu Bakr’s (R.Z) daughter would bring them food and water, while one of the shepherds would let the Prophet (S.A.W) milk the sheep. On his way home, he would wipe off the tracks so no one would realize where the Prophet (S.A.W) and his companion (R.Z) were hiding. Once the danger had passed, the next morning the Prophet (S.A.W) and his companion Abu Bakr (R.Z) set off to Medina while riding their camels. As they were traveling, they came across a man who also wanted to kill the Prophet (S.A.W), but no matter how well he aimed the arrow, he was never able to strike. Then Abu Bakr (R.Z.) approached him and told him about the Prophet (S.A.W) and Islam and that he should not kill the Prophet (S.A.W). He listened. When his fellows caught up yo him, he told them that there was nothing there, and we should go and look in the other direction.

From then, their journey was smooth. Before entering Medina, they made a mosque named Quba. Soon after, he entered Medina and was greeted with the warmest welcome.

This marked the beginning of the Islamic calendar and a new chapter in the history of Islam.
